    ANJC 3311

Beautiful Mauritanian African trade beads, hand-knotted and alternating with bicone Swarovski crystals. The largest bead is flanked by coordinating tassels.  These trade beads are a type of powder glass beads handmade in the town of Kiffa. The beads are made with crushed glass moistened and formed around a core without a mold. Firing is on a bed of charcoal. Each bead is individually hand decorated. The antique Kiffa beads are very rare. New ones have been made in the region beginning in the 1980s using the ancient technique. The making of these beads requires considerable skill.

Closure is a glass bead and seed bead toggle.
